Prevention and safety
Every year, thousands of students swap their school desks for a day in the workplace on YOUCA Action Day. To ensure that both young people and employers look back on the day with a good feeling, it is essential to create a safe and supportive working environment.
While not every job involves risky working conditions, YOUCA provides employers with the necessary guidelines and tools to ensure a safe and educational day. With the right support, apprentices can perform their tasks with confidence, responsibility and within their competences.
As an employer, what can you do?
1. Comply with legislation
First of all, make sure you take into account the legal regulations that apply within your sector.
2. Take into account the apprentice's competences
Check the young person's background: what education is he/she/it taking and what experience does he/she/it bring? Make sure the tasks match the apprentice's knowledge and skills. For example, do not hire an apprentice with no welding experience as a welder-for-a-day.
3. Be clear about the requirements
Indicate in the job board whether specific competences are needed to perform the job safely.
Indicate in the comments field what clothing or protective equipment the apprentice needs. If special work clothes are required, make sure they are available and inquire about the apprentice's correct size (e.g. shoe or clothing size) in good time.
4. Instructions and guidance
At the start of the working day, explain how to use the equipment correctly and what protective clothing is required.
Discuss the specific risks associated with the job or work environment and explain the corresponding safety measures.
Check that the young person follows the safety measures. If the student handles risks irresponsibly, and you have intervened several times, you may send the student to school if no other tasks are possible. You can then inform the teacher via the "pupil absent" button in the job bank.
5. Contact us with questions

Safe and secure during the YOUCA Action Day!
On 16 October, apprentices will come and spend a day in your workplace. They are insured in two ways:
- Through the school policy: The YOUCA Action Day is an extra-muros activity, so the school insurance automatically applies. In case of possible labour inspection, your registration on the job board is sufficient.
- Via YOUCA's additional insurance: YOUCA takes out additional insurance for damage to entrusted equipment. This insurance is provided by IC Insurances & Adesio Assurances.
