Future leaders
In 2012, YOUCA (South Day) supported a youth project in the slums of Caracas, Venezuela, led by the Belgian non-profit organisation Bello Belgo. The aim was to empower Venezuelan youth to become leaders in their communities.
Caracas' slums have poverty and crime, hindering young people's development and opportunities for higher education and employment. Bello Belgo and partner Embajadores Comunitarios break this cycle by offering young people positive perspectives . They are trained in argumentation, debate, and problem-solving thinking, as an alternative to violence. Through self-reliance and the acquisition of personal and intellectual skills, such as communication and cooperation, young people can tackle concrete problems in their neighbourhood. In addition, they are given the opportunity to pursue higher studies for professional careers and leadership in their community, to make it a better place for all.
