Right to young

In 2014 and 2024, YOUCA partnered with Broederlijk Delen and Ayyam Al Masrah ('Theatre Day Productions'/TDP), with the aim of giving young people in Gaza the chance to process traumatic events and be able to relax again. Ayyam Al Masrah creates a safe space with and for Gaza youth, where young people learn to express and develop themselves freely through theatre and where they can find hope for the future again.

The ongoing Israeli violence in Gaza puts pressure on the position of young people. Their basic rights are violated daily and their voices are not heard enough. Many young people are traumatised, feel frustrated and cannot find ways to express themselves and relax. The aim of Ayyam Al Masrah is to meet these needs by making theatre and creative activities a regular part of Palestinian youths' lives. This allows them to find their own voice, develop their own identity, discover their talents and skills. By promoting these activities, Ayyam Al Masrah aims to lay a foundation for the peaceful development of Palestine, while respecting the rights of children and young people.

The project

Broederlijk Delen and Ayyam Al Masrah formulated a number of objectives as part of their joint project for the YOUCA Action Day:

  1. Making quality theatre more accessible to Palestinian youth by offering theatre performances to young people in marginalised and hard-to-reach neighbourhoods;
  2. Train more youth from marginalised areas in Palestine in theatre and expression; and
  3. Empowering young people in self-reliance and entrepreneurship through the establishment of its own independent satellite for theatre training and production in Gaza.
