SOS: Students without jobs

Have one or more of your pupils really been unable to find a job, even after a long search? It’s not the end of the world! Even though they don’t have a job, they can still have an educational day and make a positive contribution.

For one or a few pupils

You could offer them a few alternative roles at school. For example, they could spend a day working as a teacher or headteacher. Let them help out in the school office or send them out with the caretaker. That corridor in the building might well do with a lick of paint, and the school’s green spaces would look much better after a good prune!

Reward the pupils who applied the most but still didn’t find a job by making them YOUCA reporters. Take them along when you visit your pupils at their workplaces and let them write or film a piece about it for the newsletter, website or your Facebook page. YOUCA does not, of course, expect any payment for these roles. Taking part in YOUCA Action Day is and remains completely free for schools. If you do wish to pay for these roles, that’s perfectly fine too!

For several pupils

Are there a lot of pupils who don’t have a job, and is it not possible to offer them all a ‘job for a day’ at school? Even in that case, there are plenty of options.

Join the bus for humanity

Organise a bus campaign with your pupils. You can get started with as few as two pupils who are out of work, and in this way they’ll be helping to build a fairer society. Find out how it works!

YOUCA is lending a hand!

YOUCA also provides opportunities for students who haven’t yet found a job shortly before YOUCA Action Day. In collaboration with Natuurpunt, we offer a wide range of jobs across Flanders. This allows students to roll up their sleeves and help maintain Belgium’s natural environment, whilst contributing to YOUCA’s mission. In addition, YOUCA itself is organising an activity in Antwerp for around 40 students, where they will explore this year’s theme in depth and take action. These jobs will be posted on the job board in October. Students can apply for these jobs via their profile on the job board.
